(14) Secret Business English (Prologue)

My name is Takeshi Watanabe and I am an advisor to Global Bridge, which hosts business English classes. I worked at a general electronics manufacturer to introduce quality control and project management to overseas subsidiaries. Target countries are China, South Korea, ASEAN, the United States, Europe, and Australia. English is the language used at work in any country, including China, Korea, and Asia.

I studied English in middle and high school, but it wasn't a subject I was particularly good at or interested in, but it was an important subject for university entrance exams, so I did my best in reading and writing. At that time, there were no hearings for university entrance exams, so I had no experience in listening to English. The peak of my English proficiency was probably during my university entrance exams. After that, I had an English class at university, but I couldn't say I took it seriously, and after joining the company, I took a job that had nothing to do with English. However, one day, I was suddenly assigned the above job overseas.

I have to travel around the world and finish my work in three years, so I don't have the luxury of time to study English leisurely. Although we were in such a desperate situation, we were able to overcome it with a certain "change of way of thinking." Taking advantage of that experience, I wanted to pass it on to future generations, which is why I started the Business English School. Here, I would like to put aside the topic of "Business English School" and introduce the change in thinking that saved me.

Three dogmas that trap the Japanese people

Dogma 1: Japanese people are not good at English

Dogma 2: TOEIC scores indicate overseas business ability

Dogma 3: Fluent speaking English is an essential skill for overseas businessmen

The first step is to escape from the bondage of these three things.
